Projects

Eipon

David, the owner of Eipon, LLC approached Ruby Skills looking for a shop to implement his idea. Comparing all of the local alternatives (even Menlo Innovations), he found that we suited his needs best with the kind of budget and timeframe he had set for the project.

Modeling much of the business around a similar approach to Basecamp, Ruby on Rails seemed the best fit. The requirements called for integration with a flash audio stream recorder called Red5. The application also interfaces with a secure gateway to handle monthly recurring payments.

Market Monitor

A pet project of Ruby Skills, Market Monitor is quickly getting the attention it deserves. Utilizing Amazon Web Services, and several API's, it's got all of the bells and whistles.

In order to ensure that the reporting time is not interfering with the load time of requests, Amazon SQS is used to queue up reporting jobs done in the background. Amazon S3 is utilized to store user websites for comparison purposes, and Amazon's EC2 services are utilized to ensure that the background queue doesn't get out of hand.

In addition, two open source projects were born from this project. There were no Ruby projects that interfaced with Yahoo!'s Site Explorer API, nor was there any solution for integrating with Live's Search API. We created these two projects and released them to the open source community on github and rubyforge. More information can be found here: Yahoo! Site Explorer API, Live Search API
